CHESHIRE HOME

When we first set eyes on this Cheshire property, the kitchen space was divided into two rooms, one half a crowded long kitchen facing the garden and the other a squarer dining room adjacent to the hallway. Our brief was to create a bigger cooking space suitable for a family of 4, but to also keep the room from looking vast and vacant. Our client had previously had a kitchen that was too large and separated that didn’t work for her.

THE BEST DECISIONS

The client was nervous about removing the kitchen/dining adjoining wall however we insisted this was the correct thing to do to prevent the room again looking long and thin. Once removed, we ensured all remaining nibs and RSJ’s were covered by cabinetry so it appears the room has always been one. One RSJ is hidden behind the mesh panelled baking cabinets and a further behind the walk-in pantry. These crittall style pantry doors were created from solid oak and sprayed in a liquid metal paint so we could achieve the look of metal whilst keeping a very thin frame that sits perfectly within the blue timber framework.

SPACE FOR ENTERTAINING

We feel the dark blue corner of cabinets helps integrate the dining into the kitchen, therefore creating one fluid entertaining space. The glazed wine cabinets are trimmed with a brass frame beading to give a little bit of glamour to them and separate them from the adjoining breakfast cabinets. This detail was created by using a tulip wood timber moulding and spraying in a liquid brass paint.

RUSTIC CHARM

We feel the pillowed limestone floor and rubbed brass hardware gives this space a rustic charm that oozes character. The worktop marble was procured from Italy and formed up within the UK to achieve 50mm thick work surfaces, we also cut one slab into herringbone pieces so the splash back perfectly matches. Limited by the size of the marble sheets, we thought to add the brass section of work top and end panel to both create the total island size we felt was right for the room but also to create an area of worktop that isn’t delicate and so can withstand heat and chopping etc.

BEAUTIFUL FAMILY HOME

This family home not only looks beautiful but serves daily family life catering for all 4 family members to be able to sit at the island and enjoy breakfast. Possibly even a bottle of wine later that evening using the Kaelo integrated wine cooler that is central to the circular island top!
